Should of brought a shovel

Post by AntlersOutWest » Sun Jan 10, 2010 1:00 pm

Ive been hitting the hills hard for the past few weeks looking for fresh moose sheds in 4 feet of snow. Unfortunately the moose are about 5 miles back in and by the time I even get close my legs feel like they are going to fall off. I know where they have been hanging out and haven't been disturbed by anyone so ill let em lay till I can get up there on my dirt bike.
The deer haven't been dropping yet but getting close. Ive had my game cam set up and went to check it yesterday. 150 pictures of different phases of the clouds.. Nice, that 4 hours of hiking was sure worth it lol

Altho about 400 yards away from the truck I was exhausted and dragging myself along when I seen a familiar looking sight.. 2 tines sticking out!
First shed of 2010.. How on earth ive missed this one for so many years. Im guessing it has to be 5 plus years old. It was buried about 10 inches underneath the dirt. Its not a freshie but a good start to the horn hunting season.

You are amazing, and one tough woman. Hope you get the moose sheds first, sounds like you deserve them. As for the find, pretty cool and I think it's much older than 5 years. Looks like it could have been there for at least 10 years. But what do I know. (???)

Sounds like you are able to keep your self busy and in good shape during a slow part of the year. That is a cool find for sure. Makes you wonder how many bones get barried like that.

Very cool! I can't wait to get out shed hunting..will be going this Friday. It would be awesome to find a moose shed, but we only have whitetails where I look...
Good luck finding some more sheds!

Congrats AOW Very nice first find of the year. That's a good sized side. I ready to see lots of atl's in the coming couple of months.
