Shed Hunting Trip #2

Post by MuleyMadness » Wed Mar 16, 2011 9:42 am

Trip #1 = NOTHING

Trip #2 Below - Found 6 sheds between 3 of us hiking most of the day.
3 - 4 points
2 - 3 points
1 - spike

Found 1 BIG 3 point, pretty sweet. 4 old and 2 fresh.

Paw print is Cougar tracks although tough to tell.

Yes the big 3 point was spotted from the truck, still can't believe that happened to us...my Dad spotted it driving up the road. (biggest shed of the day) SWEET!!

How do you tell they're bucks when they've dropped? Can you see where they were previously attached or just by size/stature/etc?

I can't believe that buck is still packin both sides. No wonder im having a hard time finding any brown sheds. Matter fact all i have found are whites. Glad your second trip was better!

Nice Brett!!

I too am a bit surprised to still see so many bucks still packing. We had three of them behind our shop yesterday. A 4x4, 4x3, and a 2x2 and they were all still packing bone.

Here is what I found during the same trip, found just 1 shed (white), and also ran into a likely cougar kill. Pics are snapped from my cell phone, so not the greatest quality...

Look at the little circle just in front of the ear. That is where the button of the shed was attached to the pedicle. If it is fresh enough they will be blood red. After a bit they look grey as in bretts picture.

Nice Job Brett,

I hope to find some this weekend.

Thanks! I figured that was probably it but didn't know if there were any other ways!
