Heavy load

Post by sactribe » Thu May 16, 2013 10:01 pm

I headed to my good elk spot on Saturday and found a couple small sheds in the morning, including a freak club. In the afternoon I found a new hole and loaded my pack with 8 more within 90 minutes. It was a fun day and the best part is that all of them were singles and I barely touched the hillside. Total weight was about 33 pounds. 3 browns and 7 whites. Hopefully I can get back out soon.

I got out again yesterday to a completely different area I have been wanting to explore. I got into some really beautiful country and got pretty close to a porcupine, a bear, and several bulls in velvet. I also managed to find a 5 point elk set from last year. According to the map I was in public land and then I hit a fence with no signs. Do you ever hit a fence and then wonder if you are in private property or entering private, but don't have a clue which side is which? I hopped the fence and hit another one a mile later. Again, no signs saying private property or anything. It made me nervous not knowing for sure. I consulted the map again and confirmed I wasn't anywhere near private property but I can't figure what that fence was for. The bear sighting was really cool. I walked through a clearing and up a small hill and when I got near the top I turned around and saw this bear enter the clearing I just left. I got down and started taking photos. He walked towards me and I thought he was going to come right up but then he changed course and went back the way I had just come. He never saw me, but it looked like he smelled me when he crossed my path.
