Great story killerbee! I bet that was pretty intense calling that bull in like that...having to draw, put down, draw, put down. Congrats on the trophy!

That is a great story! And you are hard core going up there by yourself like that and packing out all the meat solo. Good on you! You inspire us all!!!
Nothing like the great outdoors!

thanks guys. yea i do wish it could have been a whopper but i'll take him. it was pretty rewarding when it was all over with.
i think i forgot to mention, on monday night, after i had the bull to my camp, it rained for a while. i was kicking back resting in my tent, and i am 99% posative i heard a wolf howl 3 times. it was dark and i never seen it. i would guess it was 300 =/- yrds away. but i've never heard a coyote sound like that. the longest deepest howl-- exactly what i heard in Alaska 4 or 5 yrs ago. it was very cool and a little creepy at the same time. i hate to see them in there though!

Killer-
Great story and a great bull, thanks for sharing with us. I wont call you a liar on hearing a wolf, I have seen 2 here in oregon. 1 in ne oregon and one on my way to the coast. the one on the coast was in the middle of the coast range no where near anywhere. and way to big to be a yote. the odfw said it was "impossible" "there not over that far west", I told him he was full of it and I know what i saw.

lifes short, Hunt hard!!
Re: my solo backpack hunt (with pics)
It's easy to tell the difference between the howls of a wolf and a coyote. A wolfs howl is low and drawn out. A coyotes howl is higher and much shorter with a lot of yipping and barking mixed in. I've never heard a wolf sound any where near like what a coyote does.

I love reading about tough back pack hunts. Congrats on a great hunt. I did quite a bit of solo bivvy hunting myself this year and loved every minute of it! fatrooster.
