Baited Spring Black Bear- The area we hunt, northeast of Peace River (WMU 520 & 542), is known for its abundance of large bears. Last spring, 2001, we harvested 10 bears over seven feet long and 20 bears over 6 feet long, of the 41 bears we took. There are lots of color phase bears from dark chocolate to blonde. The hunt is run from a comfortable tent camp with hot showers and heated tents. Two bears can be taken as well as wolves. Fishing is also offered. Winter Wolf Hunts- Wolves and coyotes are hunted over baited sites with heated ground blinds set up in advance. Tracking and calling of wolf packs is also effective when conditions are favorable. Hunts are conducted from our home south of Grande Prairie during January through March. There is no limit on the number of wolves or coyotes that can be taken. Archery and Rifle Whitetail Hunts- We hunt trophy Whitetail in WMU 356 and 357, which is south of Grande Prairie. Hunting is done out of ground blinds and tree stands. Bow hunting season is the last of August to mid September. In the fall 2003 we had 100% opportunity on our bow hunts. We do some early season rifle hunts in the warmer weather, the end of September, and then rut hunts in November.
