Holly Bartz

I got this buck opening morning at 7:15am. In the photo is me and my dad with my 8 pointer. It is 18 inches wide and weighed around 180 pounds. I passed up two other bucks before this one came out. A smaller buck was chasing a doe, coming in and out of the woods all morning. All of the sudden I looked and immediately saw this bucks horns. I picked up my gun and could only see the horns and the butt of the deer, it's body was covered by the edge of the woods grass. I knew he was going to go into the woods soon, so I aimed just like my dad told me, and BOOM! I saw him go into the woods along with the other buck and the doe. As soon as I reloaded I called my dad, who was hunting about 3/4 of a mile away and told him "Dad, it was big!" We waited a little while because I wasn't sure of the shot. After hearing other shots in the woods, I called dad again and told him about the other shots and he came right away. He wanted me to find it so he had me go on the side of the woods that deer usually head to after getting shot. He's been hunting there for a long time, and knew the deer would go that way. After not finding blood right away, I got a little discouraged, but dad assured me that they don't always bleed right away. After about only 5 minutes, dad shouts out "Holly, over there!" All I could see was horns sticking up! My dad and I make our way over to it, and immediately begin celebrating. I was overjoyed and I could tell that he was too. It turned out, my buck only went about 10 yards from where I shot. I owe it all to my dad. He takes care of everything and makes sure everything is ready for when I come home to hunt. Without him I wouldn't have a chance at so many deer, and it simply wouldn't be as exciting! Thanks Dad!
