Randy Rendon – Book Cliffs

Book Cliffs Deer It was Sunday evening around 6:00 p.m. on the opening weekend of the deer hunt. I was approaching a water hole, when I noticed several deer feeding along the mountain side. I knelt down behind some sage brush to take cover so I wouldnít be spotted by any of the deer. After scoping out the mountain side I noticed that two out of the three deer were small bucks. The third deer would not lift his head out from behind the buck brush to give me a better look. I was preparing to make a stock on the unknown deer when out of the corner of my eye I noticed a better buck was headed straight for the water. Once the buck reached the water he lowered his head to take a drink, and I knew that this would be my best opportunity to try to harvest this deer. I started to sneak in as close as I could while he was preoccupied. He then turned broad side and started feeding. A range of 47 yards was as close as I could get. I drew back on him placing my 50 yard pin right behind his shoulder and slightly low, within a blink of an eye I heard a distinguishing sound. I knew that I had made a precise shot. It took less than a minute for him to expire. I know heís not your record class buck. But heís definitely a trophy in my book, and an experience I will never forget. My hunt was a definite success.
