10x42 or 12x42 binos

I don't want to talk brands, I just want to know what you like better in your optics. A 10x42 or a 12x42 what are the pros and cons to both in your opinions. I am here in Utah, so I will be looking both long distances and short.

I am getting a new pair before my LE elk hunt this fall.

Thanks in advance.

i like the 10x50 mm , but out of the 2 you listed i would prefer the 10x 42.--- the higher your magnification the less light it will gather. then the same with the objective. the smaller the objective [42 mm, 50mm etc] the less light it will gather. so the 50 mm will gather more light than a 42 mm. very important since we all know that the first light and last light are very important times to be able to see. one finale note, and it's been said time after time, spend as much as your budget allows. in optics you get what you pay for. lots of bino's look good for the first yr but after a year or two you really start seeing the downfall. good bino's will be great for a lifetime!

being serious, those are words of wisdom, id defenitly go with the 10x42, besides you have a good spotting scope for the long range glassing

10x42 or 10x50, I have 10x42 and like mine. Smaller than my old 10x50 pair.

Typically anything over 10 power requires a nice steady base or tripod. Even on the 10 power you will find yourself wanting a good rest.

10x42 would be better

10x42 are going to be a bit lighter and a lot easier to hold steady while glassing for periods of time the 12's will most likely need a decent tripod to hold them still

Yea there are a bit lighter. I decided on the 10x42. Already got them and have used them a couple of times, I got a pair of Vortex Vipers. Love them. Thanks for the replys guys.
