117 sheds in 5 hours! Yellowstone catch & release

Yes, 117 sheds in 5 hours, plus one dead head. I took my family to Yellowstone in September and took my son hiking in Lamar Valley. Once we got up away from the road we started finding sheds left and right. Of course we left them laying where we found them since it is a felony to remove sheds from a National Park. From certain spots you can glass up dozens at a time and you can tell that not all of the sheds are laying where they originally fell. There were a few man-made piles that we came across, including a bunch on top of a boulder (very unnatural). Some of the sheds closer to the road have been cut up and the dead head I found had both beams cut through the middle, which is the park's attempt at making these less desirable for those who would try to take them, but makes me mad! I am sure that if I had all day I would have found 200 or 300 sheds. If I lived in the area I would want to hike Lamar Valley on a regular basis to be able to see all those sheds and wildlife. It is a truly spectacular place. It was a little painful not to get to pack out any sheds but what a day making memories with my son! Enjoy the pics.

Wow, I guess I could never go to Yellowstone cause there is a chance I would become a major felon. I could never leave that many and have a peaceful mind about it.

Looks like fun, I should do that sometime.
Kinda nice not having to carry all those heavy loads out. :-k

I agree, total torture. That is inhumane to have the NPS restrict removal of the sheds.
