130 grain or 150 grain for my .270??

Going elk hunting (Spike) this October and I was planning on buying some 150 grain ammo for my Model 70 .270. Someone told me to stick with the 130 grain as the .270 was designed for this grain. Any thoughts on this? Any other info. regarding ammo would be appreciated.

IMO the 130 is a deer/antelope bullet and does it well. I would go with the 150 for sure because elk are HUGE critters. I recommend the Federal Vital-Shok Premium if you are planning on factory loads. I have seen several rifles shoot them well.

I would also say 150 grain for sure.

About how much do these Federal Vital Shocks costs? What makes them better than some of the less expensive ones?

Pretty pricey at $50-$60, but how much for a elk tag? My elk rifle will makem' touch at 100 yds when standard federals and cor-lokts hover at 1-1/4". The added benefit of premium bullets give me confidence in performance.
