1st post-have colo. question

First of all,I have been checking out this site for a few weeks and I like it a lot. It seems to be a more informative and helpful site than others I have been involved with. I hope to share on this site any info. I might have as well as learn from others. That being said, I did not draw my usual colo. unit this year and I picked a left over unit next to it that I have never hunted. The unit I drew is colo. unit 34 north of glenwood springs,2nd season rifle.I would really appreciate any info. on where to hunt in this area.It will be my 12 year olds 1st hunting trip so I would be fine with an area that would give us a shot at something better than a fork horn.I am looking forward to participating in this forum. thanks for any help....jeff.

It's a very high unit with one decent road in. You access it from Dotsero on I-70. It doesn't have alot of roads so you may need to walk a bit. There are some very large bucks in the area but they are hard to find during 2nd season. There is a ranch along Deep Creek on the Deep Creek Road. The public land on the east and west ends of it where it meets the gorge in Deep Creek are good spots especially if it's warm. You'll see bighorn sheep there too and probably elk on the ranch. It's a pretty rugged wild piece of property. I loved hiking around it when I lived there. You'll find some big mulie sheds and elk sheds if you're in the right spot because no one likes to go there. It's too intimidating. Good luck.
