1st scouting trip

For deer that is. Last week was just a camping trip and I was lucky enough to find some good/great bucks. It really got my into the fever of scouting an area that I can hunt deer this year. I've already been criticized for even thinking about deer this year with a sheep tag in my pocket but muleys will always be my passion. Well, at least for now. :)) There's an area I've wanted to check out now for a couple years but I've had so many people tell me that's it's not worth my time to hunt it. I finally dedided to check it out for myself last weekend. Good thing I was running late or I would have walked right past the best buck I saw. It was first light and I could only tell what it was after it topped out on the skyline. About a 25-26" wide 160" class 4x4. A few minutes latter I had my camera out of my pack and I caught the first buck on the video. About a mile away I saw some bucks going over a peak, so I headed in that direction. All this so far happened before 6:30 AM. By the time I got over to the peak, the sun was well up. I peaked over into some burned pines and found the bucks. Check out the mass on the 3x3 that comes out of the pines after they winded me. I also found a good place to pack in a camp for the muzzy hunt. This is on one of the most over hunted mountains in Utah with a very low buck to doe ratio. The key to finding some of these bucks is getting out early and stay until dark. There are bucks like these and bigger on every mountain range in the state. Here's a link to the video of these bucks.

Philly B got in there and posted while I was typing a reponse. Mine never submitted. I was just saying thanks for posting :thumb and I hear you about being draw to mule deer, even when theres an LE tag occupying most of my thoughts. I'm on my sixth year of the dedicated hunter program and would love to see some good mass on some bucks this year [-o< I hope to seal the deal on an LE Elk in time to justify the muzzle loader the following week. I did upgrade my 22 year old Browning compound ](*,) tonight to a Diamond Ice Storm =D> hope to get it tuned and use it on deer while scouting for my LE elk. If I'm still unsuccessful I may give the whole extended archery thing a go. Thanks again for posting the clip.
