I'm fairley new to the forums so I thought I would share a pic of my first bull. I drew a controlled hunt in 2006 in a limited draw area and had great success. Unfortunately I left the camera back at camp so I didn't get an field photos. So the pic is from camp when I returned. A nice 6X7 that scored 303". Not a record book elk, but he'll go on the wall. Good times!

270,
I shot the bull wth a Mossberg .270 at about 40 yards. I was able to call him in. It was a controlled hunt that started Oct 1st. So the elk were at the tail-end of the rut. So it worked out nice. It was pretty cool. This year I hope to stick one with an arrow. Thanks
That is a great looking bull, and I'd be VERY happy with him also.
Congrats!! :thumb
Now when you say controled, were you told what bull you could shoot? Was there a score restriction like what they are doing the the managment hunts this year here in Utah? Or was this a end of year hunt to take a few more animals out of the herd before winter and to eas up on the farmers crops? Just curious.
Oh and Welcome to the maddness.

i think by controlled he means a draw unit like utah's limited entry hunts
Im jelous!!
A controlled hunt in Idaho is a draw hunt. The only way to shoot a large animal in some units is to draw a tag. Otherwise, you can only shoot spikes or anterless during the regular season. Idaho doesn't have the point system like a lot of states around us do. There are a lot of general season hunts, but many times in order to get the big ones you have to draw a limited entry, or controlled, hunt.
