2008 WYO Archery Buck

This is my archery buck from 2008. I got him here at home in Wyoming. He's no monster, but respectable. It was a fun and memorable hunt and I'll go back again. My wife went with me and we had a great time. She' a great partner and we had some real fun with hand signals. If anyone wants the story, I can try to get details later.

Great buck ICMDEER. His body and face look real young to me, but his rack sure don't! I love them in velvet, someday I'll get after a full velvet buck. Good job, and lets hear the story

Got this buck about 100 miles from home. The wife and I had only 3 days to hunt and I spent the first day looking for a stud. I found a big buck just before dark, but he was bachelored up with three other bucks and it was late; impossible to get close. I also saw this buck the first day. I have pics of him from the previous year. I think he's a 4 year old. He wa s 26 and 1/2 inches wide and had 18 inch G-2's and about a foot long G-3's. His main beams are really stubbed up and his G-4's are also really short. I think he scored about 165 but really don't care. It was a great memory and a fun hunt.

Anyway, I did not see either of the bigger bucks the second morning. The second night, I saw the big buck when he got up to feed, but he was still with 2 other smaller bucks. I could not get closer than about 90 yards, so no shot.

The last morning, I could not find the big guy again. Saw the smaller bucks that were with him, but no big guy. But I did see this buck. We went to about 3/4 of a mile from him and I started the stalk. The wife stayed back to give me hand signals. But the buck went over a small ridge where she could not see. I went up and peeked over a rock and the buck was about 150 yards to my right. But there were about 8 other deer with him. One was a decent 4 point, but likley a three year old. The rest does and small bucks.

I crawled to the lip of the ridge and there was a doe feeding about 8-10 yards away, but the buck was only about 35 yards away. i watched for a while, but the buck was about to go over a finger and out of sight. So I laid low and pulled my bow out of sight, raised up and the doe exploded, but the buck stood still and hesitated. I hit him back and low a little, but he only went about 100 yards. I waited for about an hour and stuck another arrow in him.

It was fun and a great memory. I hope for a bigger one this year, but everyone thinks of monsters in April.
