2009 archery harvest stats

well i checked the harvest stats for my panguitch archery hunt and in 2008: 42 percent success in 09 which is when i hunted only 8 percent success!!!!!yes 8!!! not a typo.. 2 out of 26 killed on a limited entry hunt . from what i heard during the hunt 1 of them was taken on private property. early rifle on pangutich went from 81 percent to 48 percent. muzzeloader did better and late season. alot of units did pretty close to the same and some like wasatch that had pressure taken off actually did better. pahvant went from 50 in 2008 to 32: in 09.. for archery.
WOW what a limited entry hunt for panguitch ](*,)

Ox what do they attribute the lack of success to? is it lower deer herds because of winter kill or the fact that they messed with the bow season and made it harder to hunt where you wanted to?

this was a limited entry elk hunt... i believe it do to unlimited archery spike/cow elk tags. i encountered way to many people pushing elk herds around with mature bulls in them trying to shoot cows and spikes... i seen people do drives trying to push elk over across the highway to the open unit where there buddies were...it was a disaster ,basically my so call limited entry was not a limited enrty, i had to compete with over the counter spike cow hunters who were chasing the same elk i was ... and general season archery deer hunting. i have no idea where the elk went after opening weekend! but they sure were definently there while i scouted all summer! people were hunting spikes way too hard getting back 2-3 miles from roads and pressuring the big bulls. the last 5 days alone i hiked 60-70 miles and only encountered a few elk. before the hunts started the elk were everywhere there were times id see 15-20 bulls in a mile or two of hiking during some scouting trips. i had about 10-12 ,300-350 bulls all scouted out. even had gps coords on a few beds that they often used. but after opening weekend and all the pressure there wasnt one left where i had scouted any of them.. my whole summer of scouting was completely worthless! biggest waste of my time other than the fact i got see a lot of elk...the scouting didnt do me any good for my hunt. and it was alot of money down the drain. i feel pretty cheated... i feel like i was the utardwrs guinea pig and got screwed over. i even teamed up the last week of the hunt with another guy that had a tag just hoping one of us could kill one, but it didnt help.

Your story sounds just like mine.I had the early Panguitch any weapon hunt (right after your hunt) what a disapointment, I never even saw a bull. We hunted hard and long, but nothing. We did however find a few elk (spike and cow) dead from the previous hunt.

Ox, Did you have the last week of the season to yourself or is that a change that is taking place this year? I don't think that it will help much though because once they are stirred up in will take longer than one week for them to get back to a normal routine. That's to bad about your hunt sounds like you gave it your all and that is all you could have done.
