2010 Colorado help

I need some "expert" advice and assistance for a muley hunt this year. I have 12 deer points and need help finding not only a quality area, but an affordable area to hunt.

I do not need an outfitter to coddle me, but hiring a guide would be a distinct possibility. Is it possible to hire a guide without going through an Outfitter? I prefer private land. Does anyone know of a rancher that charges a "tresspass fee" and guide service without breaking the bank?

I'm not looking for record book deer, just a quality deer that comes with having 12 points. Rugged country is not an option.

I was looking at Unit 21, however I just learned only 6 tags went to Non Residents with 14 points during the 3rd season.

This hunt would be for 2 people, me and my son. (W both have 12 points)

Any help, assistance, or advice would be greatly appreciated.

i know a really good guide that would hook you up and do all the work for you. I swear by him. It wont waste too many of your points either...or do you if you draw the tag?

He would use all of his points if he draws.

Can't really help you out on where to hunt but make sure you put yourself and your son down as a "hunting party". This way, if one of you draw you both will get a tag. Fairly sure you know this already as you both have 12 points but thought I would throw it out there just in case.

I never thought about the loss of points should you draw a tag....Very true. you might want to use another area and use the points. Dang.

How about unit 30. It's a bit more rugged and borders the southern edge of 21. I think alot of it is owned by High Lonesome Ranch and they outfit. There are some nice mulies on the ranch. It was Young's Ranch when I lived in Fruita. http://www.thehighlonesomeranch.com/ The public land holds some good deer too if you decide it's too expensive.
