proclamation 2011-2012 new mex has a hunt in unit 30 .elk in that area is very poor,just because i have hunted in that area all my life.i have only seen elk maybe ones..this is the only year that i have a hunt there. people say that they have seen lotes. unit 30 has a hunt any legal sporting arm! oct 8-12 elk-1-350 s 30 es. hunt code s- means standard hunt and 30 means 30 tags. es means either sex. bull or cow. be careful what you ack for.

I asked a game warden who works that area and he said the G&F does not want elk to get to really going , that unit 30 is more of a deer unit and they want to keep it that way. I asked if there was really enough elk to have this hunt and he said I would be surprise how the elk have taken off down in that country and the hunt would only help keep the numbers in check.Not sure how thats managed.

and here we are, the next year 2012-2013..unit 30 again. I heard last year was pretty good about 1/2the tags was filled.mostly bulls same really big bulls 8x8, and 8x7..
