3 More Reasons

Well after a week of scouting for whitetails here in N.C. I have three more reasons I can't wait to get back home! Number 1: Chiggers I have about 8 chiggers who called my lower legs and ankle home driving me absolutley crazy! 2: Ticks I have recently pulled 4 tick off or out of me. 3: Mesquitos are everywhere out here. I counted 28 mesquito bites after two days of being out and about scouting. It seems like no matter what I do all these little buggers still get me. I have tried bug spray wearing gaiters and long sleeved shirts and they still get me. Needless to say I can't wait to get home where the freezing winters kill most of these pests.

Not sure where your home is, but I pulled 6 ticks off myself here in Wyoming the other day. And we have world-class mosquitos. I also killed a rattlesnake with 9 rattles about 50 feet from my house last week. So even though it gets darned cold in the winter, we still have our share of vermin. But I really am glad we don't have chiggers.

Your making me itch like crazy just thinking about it..
Nothing worse than having those little critters on you..
Ive been lucky so far.. Only one tick no snakes a few Mesquitos bites.
My shed hunting partner said I stink too bad that why.. Oh well at least something keeps em off me lol

Good luck with your chiggers.. How do you get them out being so small?

By the time you get the sore from chiggers they are usually off of you. If they aren't you can use a lot of things to kill them like bleach or rubbing alcohol then put clear fingernail polish on them to keep them from itching to bad. This is the first time I have ever had chiggers and they are by far the worst out of the three. I will gladly take the gnats, mesquitos, and snakes of the west over the ridiculous number of chiggers, ticks, and mesquitos out here. Oh I have also see 4 copperheads and two eastern diomand backs while I have been out and about. Luckily no cotton mouths they give me the creeps! So do copperheads cause they don't give you any warning!
Brett, I don't get out of the Marine Corps until Jan 2012... I am trying to use my steady paycheck right now to help set everything up for when I get out though. Especially with our new little one on the way.

Sorry to hear about your pest problem. We saw thousands of Morman crickets yesterday. They don't bite but we got tired of hearing the crunch under our feet. The body on these things are 2.5 to 3" long, add antenae and tail thingys to that and they look pretty menancing. Here's a pic of a weird green one. Most are orange, yellow, and red.

Where are you seeing those crickets?

I've got chiggers, ticks and mosquitos in spades here in MS but there's two others I hate more.

Wasps/hornets and deer/horse flies. Got stung on the top of my ear/side of my head the other day working one of the sheds out back. I think it was more of a glancing blow rather than a full out sting, though.

And them dang deer/horse flies, when the bite they take out a pound of flesh!

I hear you my southern brother! How about those buffalo gnats? They are tough here in Arkansas.

Sounds like you should invest in Therma-Cell.

Chiggers burrow under your skin and send a little tube upto breath. Finger nail polish kills em quick. The spanishmoss is there favorite home next to under you skin. I've sat all day in swamps hunting whitetails and the no-seeams are the worst for me. I bought a bugtamer 3D years ago and have had tons of sqeeters and no-seeams on me, no bites but the noise will drive you insane. The new version of the suite isn,t worth the money to me. I just keep sowing leaves on the old one. Anyway good luck this season.
