Have you guys heard about the 389+ bull taken in NE Cal last fall? Saw a pic the other day. What a monster, on public ground too!

389! Thats a big bull! Utah is finally starting to pump out some big bulls, there were several 400 inchers taken. You never hear much about CA though! There are always Tule elk articles in the Mags, but thats like african game to me! Just big Non-typicals! If you can find a pic of the bull on the net, let us know the link! Ah, welcome again!

Haven't heard about it myself. Where did you find/see the pic of him?
I'd like to see it sometime, didn't know they produced em that big in Caly. :) Welcome aboard the forum though, good to have you.

I saw a picture of the bull.......NICE. They killed an even bigger bull on the Tejon Ranch (over 200,000 acre cattle ranch) that scored 447 Non-typical last year. I had predicted a few years ago on another board that a monster Rocky Mountain Elk would be shot on the Tejon. Man you should have heard the flack I got over that. Now, people are wanting to go there rather than the San Carlos. I've seen some monsters there while bowhunting for pigs.

This 447 NT, This is the same state as the new guy was talking?? That is a monster bull! I read an article on a 440 or something archery bull, the new NT world record. It was a smoker of a bull that I think came out of AZ. The guy suposedly lucked onto it in an area that was his second choice in the draw! Some people! California elk, hey? Maybe I'll have to check into that one!

There is a picture in the Cal. Fish and Game Big Game Magazine its called "Tracks". It has the tag applications for elk, antelope and sheep in it. I live about 15 miles as the crow flies to where he took it. I'll check the website and let you all know if the pic is on the net.

Yup, the 447 NT was shot in California on the Tejon Ranch by a rifle hunter. They killed another I heard that scored 427 this last season. Just copy and paste the link below for a view.

Thats a monster! Is the ranch a free roaming ranch? I sure hope its not a high-fenced! That would make me sick! 2 400" bulls in the same year! Now thats Elk management!

The ranch is 270,000 acres and is the largest ranch in the entire state of California. The only fence around it is a 4 strand barb-wire to keep the cattle in. I've hunted pigs on it several times and still have only seen about a quarter of the entire ranch.

Both Pope & Young and Boone & Crockett definatley consider the ranch as fair chase. The ranch ranges in elevation from about 2000' to over 8000' and has antelope, bear, mule deer, elk, and tons of wild hogs.

I can only afford to hunt the wild hogs. Since they began shooting monster size elk, I heard it will cost you a tune of at least $12,000 to hunt. Too much for my blood, but when the San Carlos Indian Rez charges $20,000-$25,000, the Tejon is a steal. Especially since the San carlos hasn't put out that quality of a bull in a little while.

There are pics and story about this bull in the new "Trophy Hunter" magazine. Also a pic of a 360 bull taken in the same area last year also.
