6mm Remington

I love this cartridge and am curious as to what other folks think about it? I've used one in either my Remington Model 600 Centennial or Ruger #1B for 36 years now. Largest animal I've killed with it was a spike bull-elk.

i have a ruger 77 that was a .243 now a 6mm. one of my favorite guns. i always make a joke of it, it's a gun i usually let people who have never killed a deer use. because you could point it at the moon and it will hit the deer you were aiming at!

I've had my 6MM for about ten years now. It was one of the two that my father had. At the end of his hunting carrer it was all that he would shoot. This is an awesome caliber and the history of how it came around is interesting also.

I've got an old 722 Remington in .244 Rem. which is the 6mm with a slower twist barrel. It wouldn't shoot longer heavier bullets very well, but Speer solved this problem by offering a 90 grain bullet suitable for big game. I'm in the process of having a 243 winchester barrel put on it as we speak. Ammo and reloading component availabilty is better right now for the 243 and it's worn out. It was originally thought of as a varmint cartridge and remington brought it out with the slower twist to shoot light bullets at high velocity, while winchester brought out the 243 as a dual purpose cartridge to shoot light big game and varmints. Remington renamed it the 6mm and put a tighter twist in it to stabilize the heavier bullets to compete with winchesters cartridge but never caught up. Some of us just shot the Speer 90 grainers. It's a very homely rifle too, the 722. But I love it.

My first deer rifle was my Remington 788 chambered in .243 win. I love that rifle to this day but I have always wanted a 6mm Rem. too. One day when I hit the lottery I will be able to have all the little things I want lol.
