Well My Wasatch Elk hunt is over..
I was so exctied for my wasatch tag. I didnt see any shooters Sat. We seen a monster 6x6 about 1000 yards away across the canyon and took a shot and missed. We sat on a ridge and watched him for an hour in the thick pines just before dark. He was screaming the whole time. His bugle gave me chills. It was awsome.
The plan monday was to get up there early and hike into the canyon where we seen him last. It was about 6:30 and bearly light enough to see.
I heard 5 different bulls screaming all around us. I could hear the big deep throat bull futher down the canyon screaming. I wanted to get down there to try to push him out. I knew he would be at least a 380 bull. But my curiosity got the best of me and wanted to see what this bull was before I took off down the canyon. The bull bugled right below us in the pines. My heart was pounding. You could hear him crashing through the thick brush and coming closer. I think I checked my safety 50 times and made sure I had good steady shoot if I needed it.
We sat on a ridge overlooking a small meadow. The air was brisk, frost on the ground and fingers freezing cold. He was screaming like crazy. I heard rumble in the brush behind us. I turned slowly and 5 cows had came up the bank around us. Not knowing where the bull was I was ready to shoot in any direction.
All the sudden an ear shreaking scream right below us. He was close... By now I had bull fever bad...
3 cows came out into the meadow and stoped, another deep bugle and he steped into the clearing, stoped broad side about 150 yards away. I could tell he was a non typical but couldnt tell what excatally he was. I couldnt resist. One shot behind the front shoulder and he dropped.
Im thrilled with my first big bull. He's unique for sure.
He is a 6x7
The picts are alittle hard to see. One side is a nice heavy 6 pt and the other side his front eye guard comes straight up 3 feet and forks. He has 3 other tines below, a 8 inch tine that drops and wraps around his ear and almost into the side of his head and a 2.5 foot drop tine.

I probably would have downed him also, very cool and unique bull. Thanks for sharing, sounds like a blast!
What ever happened on your bear hunt? And what's up with the pink? :)) Completely kidding.
CONGRATS on an awesome bull!
When I get the skull back from the taxidermist I will post some better picts.
MM-- Ive been having a blast bear hunting. No bear yet. This year has been tough. Every weekend a whole lot of chasing. We have been on some big ones but they are runners.
Last weekend we had a big one treed but he was 3 canyons over from where we were and by the time we could hike over there he bailed and ran another 5 miles. Tried dogs for sure.
As for the pink.... Ive wore that same pink hoodie and the same red top cowboy boots the last two elk hunts and have been lucky getting a nontypical bull every year. Laugh all you want! Pink makes you tougher.. lol
Of course, I wouldn't dare walk into the local tavern dressed like that...LOL.
Nice goin!
Who are you??
im from Kamas too..
Did you get the skull done yet? I would like to see a picture of him. I did my own elk skull. I do them for a local taxidermist.
Im getting him mounted but he was supposed to call me when he had the skull cut down. I was going to pick it up until he needed it again for the mount. Hopefully I will get it back this weekend.
The taxidermist told me that this year he has seen more non typicals come in than ever.. I wonder why.. Hard winter or the genitics maybe a combo of both??
Your bull is awsome. You did a great job on the euro mount.. Can you give me any tips!??
Was it a general tag?
What kind of tips do you want? Ask away and I will do what I can to help.
Mulies forever got a unique bull too. My question is would that be a legal bull on a spike only unit? It's branch on only one side so does it meet the spike criteria?
"A “spike bull” is a bull elk that has at least one antler that does not branch above the ears. A branch is a projection on an antler that’s longer than one inch, measured from its base to its tip."
Look for the 6X1 baby!
