So after some reading and studying about cougar hunting, I'm kind of drawn towards it. There will be so many opportunities for me in MT and I will have to find my thing and I know that I am just interested in learning all I could about this sport from some of the pros. Like dogs, dog training, practice, strategy, gear etc. I would like to know if this is something I might get into. I know for sure I love to hunt deer and ducks but there is so much more out there.
Thanks in advance.

I don't know much about it but I do know that Walker hounds were used by a LOT of folks in Washington until they outlawed running dogs. I've got a buddy that has one that is just a natural born tracker.

Most lion hunters have their own formula for dogs. Some like plotts, walkers, blueticks, redticks, black and tans, redbones and a mixture to their liking. Dogs are by far the best way to hunt mountain lions. Cats live in some tough country and eventhough they can make those 20 foot jumps from boulder to boulder, many dogs have fell to their deaths attempting it. It can be a very expensive way to hunt cats, especially when you lose a few dogs every year. Some hunters have found success in calling them in with a predator call but the success rates are a lot lower.
