A disturbing holiday

We went down to one of the big firework shows in Salt Lake and saw a disturbing site. As the show was coming to the end they played the national anthem and as I looked around there were hardly anybody that even stood up let alone covered their hearts.

It saddens my heart to think that this means so little to so many. :>/

I understand that if they had asked alot more of the people would have stood but it shouldn't have to be that way. I just hope that it doesn't take another event like WWII or 9/11 to get people to be a little more patriotic (sp) in this day and age.

God help us. [-o<

I've noticed that sort of behavior lately myself. I watched a show on the History channel a few nights ago about the founding fathers and it portrayed them in a very negative light. Actually refered to them as terrorists. Seems some of them were sex perverts, raised lots of hemp and reportedly smoked some of it and were probably drunk and stoned when they crafted the Constitution. This whole show made me sick and I was so mad I couldn't sleep all night. The media is surely helping Obama educate us. If the founding fathers were brigands the constitution means nothing and should be ignored or changed. Jefferson supposedly ignored it for the common good when he created the banking sysytem and bought the Lousiana Purchase. Quite a slant on our heritage. Trying to defame our leaders and country. It's working too. The Bible doesn't call us sheep for nothing. Dumbest animal on earth. God help us.

This really chaps my rear end. I see it all the time too. I usually ask folks to remove their covers and respect the anthem...especially if they are near enough to me to do it quietly. My family, from my wife to my youngest son, ALWAYS pop tall and render honors during the anthem. I would have it no other way!

Hmm that is sad. Glad to say in my neck of the woods this isn't a problem.

I have noticed the same thing in many places. It seems that so many of the members or our country take it for granted. Maybe if they had to fight for it they would appreciate the fact that they can sit on their rumps and disrespect all of those who founded and fought for their right to do so. IMHO I would love to slap everyone that does this. ](*,)

I agree, it makes me sick to see what the liberal media trys to portray and what they choose not to report.

In a positive light, I took my family to a Rodeo a week ago. The rodeo annoucer did old glory justice in his speech about fallen soldiers as the colors were presented. The whole crowd was up and had head dress removed, with hand over heart. There was an energetic feeling of patriotism as national anthem was sang.

IMHO if we as a nation would sing all three verses of the national anthem we would be better off. Verse three speaks a lot about recognizing where the true strength of our nation comes from. Our motto, In God We Trust!

It's sad to see reverence for God, the anthem, and flag being stripped away.

Ask yourselves a question. Where did I learn the National Anthem, what it stands for and why and how to respect it? For me it was elementery school where it started our morniging, every morning. By the fourth grade we had read the Constitution. By the eighth most of us knew and understood it. Now the kids learn alternitive lifestyles, how to put a condom on a banana, and that the founding fathers were nothing more than slayvers, and capatalists who wanted a bigger prophet to spend on thier mistresses. Just for kicks call your local schools and ask how often they play the Anthem and ask them for thier correculum on the constituion. This is where the problem starts. I'll shut now.

Don't know where your kids go to school, but it sure isn't the school where I teach.

I agree wholeheartedly. Especially that last sentence. I am the proud descendant of a Rev War solder Sgt George Peter Riedy and his four brothers who also served. My wife is the descendant of Capt John Harkrider and Corp Peter Breakbill. My son salutes the flag because he was taught to do so.
