A disturbing holiday

We went down to one of the big firework shows in Salt Lake and saw a disturbing site. As the show was coming to the end they played the national anthem and as I looked around there were hardly anybody that even stood up let alone covered their hearts.
It saddens my heart to think that this means so little to so many. :>/
I understand that if they had asked alot more of the people would have stood but it shouldn't have to be that way. I just hope that it doesn't take another event like WWII or 9/11 to get people to be a little more patriotic (sp) in this day and age.

In a positive light, I took my family to a Rodeo a week ago. The rodeo annoucer did old glory justice in his speech about fallen soldiers as the colors were presented. The whole crowd was up and had head dress removed, with hand over heart. There was an energetic feeling of patriotism as national anthem was sang.
IMHO if we as a nation would sing all three verses of the national anthem we would be better off. Verse three speaks a lot about recognizing where the true strength of our nation comes from. Our motto, In God We Trust!
It's sad to see reverence for God, the anthem, and flag being stripped away.
