A little confused

Now, before anyone takes this the wrong way I am only trying to understand a different style of shooting.
At the range I am shooting at currently everyone shoots off rests and stands, all the time. I was trained to zero a rifle and then only shoot from field positions. Only returning to a stand to test something new, ie. scope, round, bullet etc...

Am I missing something?

I shoot from my backpack, prone, kneeling, from my trekking poles, seated knee rest etc...

I get a lot of strange looks (???)

Thanks, Chris

No you are not doing anything wrong.

That is the best way to do it because those positions you are practicing shooting in are the same things you will have to take in the field.

I shoot at the range of bags or a bipod to get the best zero possible and then like to practice the same way you are.

The way I see it it doesn't do a whole lot of good to practice shooting in a way your never going to shoot in the field (rather than to sight in a scope etc..). Shoot at the range the same way your going to have to shoot in the field and then it will be natural and you'll be much more comfortable and acurate.

Whoever thought you to shoot did it properly, to many people spend all their time shooting from a bagged-up bench and never shoot from field positions and they can’t hit SHXX when the time comes. More and more people are relying on some type of support to shoot from, Bipod, sticks, etc. They cannot shoot from a sitting or kneeling much less a standing position.
Keep doing it your current way.

It probably just looks odd and is a little awkward, at least at the ranges that I am familiar with. Your method certainly is more practical.

Practice how you plan to shoot,in the field I either shoot prone or sitting always off a bipod,so after a lead sled zero session thats how I practice,i throw in a little standing snap shot practice at shoulder sized targets just incase. :thumb
