ADVISE

DREW ANOTHER DEER TAG FOR MT. THIS YEAR, 3rd TRIP OUT. HAVE DONE WELL ON THE OTHER TRIPS, HOWEVER, THIS YEAR I WANT TO FIND A REALLY GOOD BUCK. I KNOW THAT THERE ARE SOME OUT THERE BECAUSE IT IS PRIVATE LAND AND ISN'T HUNTED THAT OFTEN, THE WINTERS HAVE BEEN MILD, ETC. WE GO IN S.E. PART OF THE STATE AROUND HARDIN. I SEE PLENTY OF DEER JUST NOT THE BIG HEAVY ONE I'M LOOKING FOR. ANY ADVISE?

Who's land is it? Can you give you any pointers??

And how much land are you hunting, be patient is my advise. :)

Don't shoot the first 'decent' buck you see.

Like the Miestro says, the biggest thing is patience. If you're hunting private land I assume there must be some kind agriculture, like alfafa, or wheat, hay, etc. Although there are lots of varibles, I have definetly noticed that deer are more much likely to appear during the daytime in these fields when the weather is not so pleasant. That is, on hot nice sunny days, I've found that deer won't be in the fields till nightfall. I always get excited when a weather change moves in, the bucks seem to get much more active.

I HAVE TAKEN MY BUCK ON THE LAST DAY ALL 3 TIMES, AND THOSE WERE THE BEST THAT I HAD SEEN. IT'S PRETTY HOT AND DRY THERE NOW, IF IT CONTINUES MAYBE HUNTING OVER WATER. IT'S ABOUT 40K ACRES WITH ALFALFA FIELDS. IT IS SO VAST THAT IT'S HARD TO FIGURE OUT WHERE TO LOOK. I GUESS HUNTING FIRST AND LAST LIGHT?!
