Agree with you on this one! Going off their faces, body size and antlers.....I'm no pro yet though!

The first two are young. The one of the right has a wide roman nose, bigger head, thicker horns, a bigger neck (even in the summer when a lot of bucks look like they have leprosy), good sized body, getting a swayed back and he's a little behind the others in the photo which should make him look smaller. Too bad he doesn't have been genetics for horns.
Look at the other two deer's faces, young bucks.

I am with Ridge 100% on that. I was going to post the same years but he beat me to it. Face and belly tell you all you need to on those bucks

the first buck I would say looks like most deer I hunt at around 2.5 years old.

next buck is a year and a half with good genetics because the body looks about the same as most 2 point bucks.

4 plus big blocky head

I don't believe like most that deer grow a point a year
spike
2 pt
3 pt
4 pt

I see plenty of small bodied 2 point 3 point bucks and then the next year there are plenty of bucks18-22 inch 4 points. I hardly ever see a spike

I have heard a lot of different answers to this question but wanted to put it out there to see what others have heard or thought. At what age is a mule deer in its prime as far as antler growth before they lose some of their size and mass?

I think most of us are pretty close. That right one is really filled out with slumping back and broad shoulders. For sure IMO he is 5 or older.

I pull the teeth from the deer and elk our hunters take every year and send the teeth to the Wyoming Game and Fish lab. They age the deer and send me the results. I'd say those deer are 3, 2 and 4 respectively. But I could sure be wrong. That's why we send the teeth to the lab, so we can be sure about the ages of our deer.

Left Buck 3.5 years old less mass antlers than Right Buck, less developed mask,

Middle Buck antlers and general youthfullness of body tells me he’s about 2.5 years old

Right Buck 5.5 years old due to mask and body confirmation (belly) (thicker neck) and antler size and mass

:thumb good post!
