Ok, I'm going to do something a little different and take a guess myself. I have never scored this buck before or yet. So I will try to do it only using the photo and in a few days I will put the tape on it. I came up with 155 gross and 152 net.

Ok people, the score is in and we all were deceived a little. He has real good main beams and inside spread. Also 5" bases and 2 1/2 G 1's. Score... 162 gross and 157 5/8. I always thought it was a low to mid 150 class buck.

The story on this buck is a little odd, so I thought I would share it. I had already been hunting 7 or 8 days in some really rough country high on the mountain but just hadn't seen anything real big. So one night I decided to check out a field where some does were always feeding in and with the rut coming on, maybe a good buck might just come in and check out the does. As I pulled up to the field I could see two 24-26" bucks in the headlights, so I backed off and decided to come back in the morning. In the morning I again pulled up to the field swung the headlights out across it but there was not a single deer around. So we decided to go up on the mnt. again and with no luck again, I decided to go to the field early in the afternoon and wait it out. There was a river nearby that the deer would cross from their daytime bedding, to feed in the fields at night. I was watching a well used game trail by the river up until sunset and no deer at all had come in this way. I had been sitting with my back up against a big cottonwood tree the whole time. When I stood up and turned around to the oppisite side that I had been watching. There was a nice 4 point right in the middle of the river. He had almost crossed without me even knowing it. I waited for him to cross all the way but when he got to the bank, he jumped forward out of the water and right behind another big cottonwood and then walked straight awayand out of sight with the tree between us. I then ran up to a small rise and there he was, 50 yards broadside. I quickly shot and down he went, flopping around like a fish out of water. He did this for about 5 seconds, then gathered his feet and bolted to the far side of the field and into some really thick willows. I looked for blood but could not find any. I went and got my friends and with lights, we could find no sign of blood. We figured he had recrossed the river, so I waited until morning to look somemore. In the morning I crossed the river and worked my way up and down some rocky draws with some cedar trees in them. About 200 yards above the river, I jumped the buck at about 20 yards and he only ran about 5 yards and stopped. One shot to the neck and he was down for good. The first shot had hit him high in the back, about 2" below the spine.

That is a crazy story, cool story though. Glad you got him.

Good story. Seems odd that tre first shot didn't kill him. Seems like that bullet should have expanded doing all kinds of damage. ???

Oh, I forgot to say that it was with a muzzleloader and I was using roundballs.
