I dont know the area, and i'm not familiar with the migration patterns of deer in warmer climates, but I'd say hunt every day you can afford to be out there. Especially if your not familiar with the area.

I don't know the area but here in southern Utah hunting desert terrain we use water sources they can be very productive and when we find tracks we get on them and its not uncommon for me and my buddies to track for a couple of miles before we find that deer but it can be a very rewarding hunt if it works out. I hope I helped a little.

thanks for the help guys. ive talked to other people who said tracking in the sand is hard work but productive. i hunt whitetails mostly ive done a little blacktail hunting in califonia but this is new. whats a good size muley track? some of these deer go 300 pounds on the hoof. dont want to track a doe for 3 miles.

I would hunt every chance you get. Put a lot of miles on the boots and find a few water holes far away from any roads with mature buck tracks aaround them. January is the better time to hunt but it is hot in september and they need the water so you have a good chance of bagging a nice buck.
