Any chukar hunters?

Here's a weekend of fun! I love to hunt these birds. I've got a nice honey hole a few hours from home.

They're brutal to hunt! Even my dogs get torn up chasing these birds! I actually tape (vet wrap) leather boots on my dogs when we chukar hunt. But whe you get in the birds it's a blast.

Get after 'em! I like it, but I'll never get really good at it. I just don't have the lungs and legs anymore.

My oldest son can run them down going uphill. I just turn him and the dogs loose and hope they fly down a little lower (where I am!).

LOL....Mark, I think I'll take a page out of your book and let my oldest boy "bird-dog" for me.
Actually, I run 8-9 miles a day so I THINK I'll be able to handle it although, as you know, chukar country ain't exactly the easiest to traverse.

It's worse than elk country! It's uphill every direction.

I was on a chukar hunt 2 years ago and we had to walk past the sheep to find the birds!

It won't be long now. October 14th is our waterfowl and upland opener. I don't usually hunt ducks until November when the warm weather crowds are gone. So it's chukar until then.

Looks like fun, I like those rugged mountains. Never hunted Chuckers.
They apparently don't do well up North. MT only has a few right down next to the WY border.

Running 8-9 miles a day may or may not work. My son brought home a Navy buddy several years ago that was a fitness freak. Took him hunting on the John Day river. Dang near killed him!

I have a number of places were I used to hunt them from horse back. Much easier on me and a real hoot if you have a big rinning dog. Now I'm wearing out and the horse is gone. Getting a four wheeler and might try that. Those are Hun's with me and Hannah. Found them on a Chukar hunt. Awfully inconciderate of them to show up!

I love hunting those crazy birds. Growing up in Central OR I had some of the best chukar hunting in the country only a few hours away. I recently found some here in CO, but nothing compared to the numbers in Oregon. Thanks for the pics guys. :thumb
