Any colorado muley/whitetail hunters out there?

Howdy- I'm wondering if there's any Colorado mule or whitetail hunters that belong to this forum. I lived in Colorado from march of 2009 to march of 2010, and will be living there again next march of 2010. I'll be getting a decent hunting rifle setup when i do get back, and will be looking for some knowledge on hunting deer in Colorado. By the way, the last time I hunted was when i was about 12 years old, and i got a decent little buck with my dad.
So, do you guys hunt from a stand, by the woods, or do you stalk the open plains? And what's the deal with the "draw" for tags i keep hearing about? Do you have to put in for a tag, and hope you get one?
Thanks

I hunt muleys here in CO. My primary area is mostly aspen, pine, and oak brush with draws and hills. I have also hunted areas that are sage brush and pinion-juniper. My preferred way to hunt is to get to an area that I can glass the distances. Once I find something I want to make a move on, I will stalk to within range. To me, mule deer aren't something that can easily be patterned like a white tail can be, so tree stand hunting isn't the best choice. Mule deer will hang out in a general area, but don't really continually use a certain game trail. I'm not saying it can't be done, but treestand hunting isn't for me.
You are correct as far as having to draw a tag to hunt deer in Colorado, whether it is archery, muzzleloader or one of the 3 rifle seasons. Some areas you have a good chance of drawing the first year, other areas may require one or more preference points. Preference points are acquired by either unsuccessfully drawing a tag or by not trying to get a tag at all and simply apply for a point.

You can read up on the regs in detail here:

Where abouts are you planning on moving to in Colorado?

I live in Colorado and also glass mostly for mulies, most of the whitetails in Colorado live in the Eastern plains along the river bottoms and of course almost all of it is private. There is deccent to awesome mule deer hunting through out Colorado. Depending on the terrain and the area you will be hunting a tree stand could be used, but the majority of the hunters will spot and stalk or glass from a distance and then stalk into range.
