Any input on Colorado GMU 60 for Archery season?

My husband and I are planning an archery elk hunt this fall in Colorado, and want to stay on the western side of Colorado. We will likely put in for a draw unit like 61, but I was looking at stats for 2009, and those numbers for the archery season looked pretty good. Any advice yay or nay is greatly appreciated!!
Thanks so much!

GMU 60 is small and very rugged. Problem with the smaller units is that the elk can move out of them but 60 is OTC. 61 is hard to draw because it is a trophy unit and usually takes 5 years or more but has many roads and is easier to travel overall.

Thanks Mark, really appreciate the input. Any recommendations on a good OTC unit in Eastern Colorado for a first elk hunt? Our buddy (who lives just outside Denver) said that he figured it would take us at least 3-5 years to get drawn for 61, but it would be good to apply for the preference points, if nothing else. We are also considering unit 63, 11, and 211...heard that the Meeker area is a good area to go, but we'd prefer to be somewhere that isn't going to be covered in a ton of other hunters. We also need a place that's going to be easy enough to get a small travel trailer (with axles flipped for clearance) into for base camp with the ability to hike 5-10 miles in per day.
I don't expect anyone to give away their prime hunting ground secrets, but just any advice or help on general areas is more than appreciated. We had wanted to get out that way to scout for a long weekend in July, but are on a pretty limited budget, and if we have to pay to fly in and rent a 4x4 just to scout, there is a possibility we wont be paying for tags this year too.

Units 11 and 211 have few resident elk but they are good for the late rifle hunts when the migration starts. The northwest part of the state holds the best herds. Check out unit 214 and the northern parts of 23 and 24. It's high and cooler and where the elk will be in the early season. If you are willing to walk a bit you can get away from the other hunters. The elk will move away from them too. The end of the second week until the end of the archery season is best for the rut. Bring good glass and get in shape. Good luck.
