Personally i think and feel it's not a good time to be out there right now, those animals are having a rough time this winter.... =; i say leave them alone, those antlers will still be lying right there at the end of february once that animals start getting more feed. =D>

I agree 100% with Skull Krazy..... :good post I am out looking but I have not left my truck. All my pictures are taken from my truck with equipment that will allow me to be 100-200 yards away and not bother them. I am also looking for any predator that my be harassing them, Coyote, fox or Human. Let's help the deer and elk out by staying away so they don't become stressed out and end up dead. :thumb

Agreed, leave them alone. Rough winter in many areas.

Well said....I couldn't agree more. Lets give the critters a break or we might not have too many to hunt next fall!

I agree with stayin off the hill. There has been numerous tickets given out already for elk and deer harrassment up here. Serves them right for not obeying the rules.
The dwr is not tolerating the shed horn hunters.
The DWR is having a tough time keeping the elk and deer off the freeway near echo resv and rockport resv.
They come down every night just to get out of the snow.

Just wondering but what do you consider harassament? Do you have a lot people riding all over the country, or enough people walking around to cause grief? I usually don't even begin looking until March, and only on foot, but I see alot of idoits on quads tearing stuff up from about now till they think they've covered everything. Thats is what I'm thinking harassament is.

Harassment to me at this time of the year and under these condition would be anyone or thing who would cause the deer / elk to exert or use more energy than used in normal existence. If you are out looking stay in your cars, don't try and get a closer look or picture. And last if you see someone on a four wheeler or snowmobile chasing wildlife I would hope as sportsman and outdoors men we would turn them in!!

i was out watching elk the other day, (from my car haha) and noticed three dogs chasing them around. what would you recommend i do?

Make the call to the local animal control or the Fish and game. Let them know that these animal are loose without supervision and chasing wildlife. :thumb

and what if I walk in to winter range to hunt coyotes would you consider this harrassment even though this is not my intent. and i do try to leave the deer at a distance but some times you jump up a few deer you didnt know were there. does the good out way the bad? anythoughts? and dont say hunt some where else because the yotes are where the deer are.

To help you understand what people are saying, and to answer your question best i can-

I too hunt coyotes and go where deer are, but i am not "deliberately" in pursuit or following the deer herds to pick up their antlers like shed hunters often do.

My gut feel on this is if you are intentionally disturbing the deer by going into THEIR turf looking for their headgear, you are potentially and or deliberately causing undue stress on those animals.

Hunting coyote's and bumping into deer spooking them is not intentional and can be (and SHOULD be) avoided as much as possible.

Wide like a whitetail? You havent seen any big boys then :)) if it was as wide as a white tail. But since it was out past its ears it had to be at least 24 inches

I think its a great idea to thin out the yotes on winter range, but very important not to push the animals to much. I think it out weighs the fact that coyotes will do much more damage to our fawn then we will out tredging around if we are careful. :thumb
