Anyone know someone or own land near coalville/echo? HELP!!

Ok all, I want the laughter to be held until you have finished reading the whole story.

This is my first year hunting, my brother-in-law and I bit the bullet and went out and got our blue tags. So we went on-line and purchased our buck tags, and me being who I am I also went for a doe tag. Now this is where the story gets painful.

I get my TWO DOE TAG in the mail. I am very happy. Until I notice something in my E-mail from the DWR. "This hunt consists of mainly or all private land". I have now become concerned. So I go up to spot the area for ANYWHERE to hunt. They REALLY should take out the "mainly" part of that statement.

So here is my problem, I am now stuck with two doe tags and no where to hunt. Can anyone please help me out with this? Just a lead on somene freidnly to hunting out in the 108 antlerless area of the muledeer doe hunt would be very nice.

Coalville is near the Rockport Resivour. On I-80 between Salt Lake and Evanston Wyoming.

I've never hunted the area myself. But if I was you I'd go talk to some of the locals in the area or famers. Often times they will have deer on their property and don't like them there. If that's the case they may allow or even want you to take a doe from their property??

Just a thought!

HEH! I am that Grayman, I am one and the same. Still looking for help in the quest to find someone that will let me hunt on their land. Still not having luck with it. Hopefully soon someone will know someone. I do not mind doing the leg work in contacting, however, I have yet to see any farmhouses/ranchers in the area. Just miles and miles of fence. Will keep trying.

Grayman, How is your research coming? I'm not sure about Utah but many ranchers in CO, WY & MT will let you hunt does if you go out before season and ask them. Have you contacted the local chamber of commerce and ask for a list of landowners in your hunt area? UDWR might be a good place to ask too. They should have a list of landowners who they've paid out crop damage to.
I hope it all works out for you and you kill some deer.

Hiker,

Still waiting on 9er to get back to me. Have not driven up to Summit County yet and gotten the landowners info, they will not give it to me over the phone for some reason. If that fails I may just head up there that morning and see if I can find a friendly rancher. Still do not know why they would sell a tag that is on all private land only. Kinda shifty if you ask me.

Hopefully I will hear from 9er soon who says he knows some ranchers out in that area. Only 2 weeks until that hunt is suppose to start.

Well, 9er, bless his heart for trying, was unable to get me into any of the private land for the doe hunt. Running out of time. Need to get out to the Chamber of Commerce for summit county and see what I can find out. Not looking good though. I REALLY wish the UDWR would not sell tags for unhuntable land.

Grayman, Will UDWR let you turn in or exchange your tags?

No tried that. They are all out of antlerless deer and will not cross species for elk or anything. No idea why.

Grayman, I hope it all works out for you and you can find a place to hunt. Is there any BLM or School Trust land in that area? Maybe going door knocking will help you get some land to hunt, especially if you get there a couple of days early. Let us know how it all works out for you.
