The hunting gods smiled upon our family this year. 4c 4c I drew a 19A rifle Mule Deer tag. Then my husband, father-in-law, and myself drew until 9 archery bull tags. My husband and father-in-law also drew 36b Dec. whitetail tags. Needless to say we're all pumped! ! ! :) :) :)

Holy cow muliesnmerrimans, you hit the grand slam.Congrats on the stellar draws, need to post pics of those huge bulls you guys are gonna take.Unit nine in my opinion is the best unit next to one that you can draw!!!!!!My hunting buddies father drew 12a-w deer and 5bnorth rifle bull. And a firefighter buddy of mine and three of his buddies all drew archery elk in 6a south!!!!!

Thanks guys I am very fortunate to have drawn that tag. What's even better is its with people I love to hunt with. Congrats to all of you and good luck. I can hardly wait. I am going up in a few days to do some scouting....... Are you tagging a long on any of the hunts OUT2HUNT or are you going to have time? Congrats on 36B. Thats one of our fav Coues units. Have you hunted it before?

Took a respectable two point in the oct hunt last year and yes I will be calling and videoing on two different elk hunts this year.I got a little rammy last year and shot my buck on the opener of a four day hunt,No excuses but it was my first coues so this year its 90" or better or go home with my tag!!Be safe scouting and post some pics please,Unit nine is my first choice for elk and would love to see some big ones.I have seen some bulls close to the 400" mark in the far north-central part of the unit.Enter the grand canyon park and drive the loop on the edge of the southern part of the canyon and look for access roads tailing south from the rim,you should get pretty lucky callin some big bulls out of the canyons and flats in that area.Good luck!!!!!!

Good luck to you too. You should have no problem filling your tag with a 90 incher. There are some real sweet bucks in that area. Last year when you hunted it, did you have many problems with illegals? Are you camping down there or do you live close enough to make the daily drive? We'll be camping down there for our Coues hunt - too darn far to drive every day for us. Gonna try to make it a fairly large camp - because of all the illegals... we had a few run-inslast year. Not too fun.

Last year we camped down there of the 684 just before you enter the canyons of the nothern part of the tummacacori mountains.we reside in north phoenix so its about 2.5 hours to drive there.I have been told i shoud check out the southern part of the unit as there are supposed to be higher concentrations of deer but I believe they are all over you just need to be good at glassing and have patience. They arent known as the gray ghost for nothin. As for the illegals,I ran into four guys carrying black backpacks across the top of a ridge while I was scouting but I was carrying my 40 cal. at the time in my leg holster so I wasn't particularly worried. They noticed me and I stood and faced them as they passed by at 25yards but they never stopped and I was glad.Upon leaving I notified the border patrol and gave them gps coordinates and they were very appreciative.During the hunt I only encountered there trash left behind.I just got off the phone with duwayne adams and looks like he might be guiding my buddies dad in the 12 a-w hunt this october,we are all pooling our money so he can take a bonified 200incher but we all know there are no guarantees.

Gotcha, we had some problems last year with them. Nothing big. My husbands tag is in December, but he has a buddy that has a tag in the Nov hunt, so we might go down there to help with glassing and get a little extra scouting in. Maybe we'll run into each other.
Went up to 9 yesterday. I heard (weather service) that it rained like crazy the night before we went up there. Well it's pretty dry up there because the ground soaked up all that water. There was a little mud, but nothing like we expected. Many of the tanks were dry. We did see some elk though.
Im psyched to get back up there!

Sounds good. I'll let you know what truck we'll be in when the time gets closer (Im not sure yet)... Yeah we looked up there. We've got a few more places we want to look still. Yeah we did see some nice bulls toward evening. Too dark to get decent pics though. Saw a big group with cows and calfs. A pretty darn good number of calfs too. Was happy to see that!

Have you guys thought off enlisting the help of a few trail cams?Last year while scouting for a friend,we were driving the road that loops around the southern edge of the grand canyon, between the second and third pullouts for overlooking the canyon,we had three large bulls cross out of the canyon and into unit 9.we continued about a 1/4 mile then pulled off and went after them.we caught the three of them feeding in a small clearing about a half mile from the road.We were in such a rush we left the video camera sitting between our seats.Awful luck when we had three bulls over 350 each and one of the was probably pushing 390.The big guy was 7x9 with a g3 that was at least 24"in on the 7 side. His rack was wide and pretty thick,if you see him you will know it immeadiately. His rack would be an outstanding addition to anyones collection for sure.I will do a little more research on my maps and give you some names of water holes that we were successful at finding good sign and that had water in them.
