Arizona passes first law to restrict OTC archery deer

Yesterday, the AZ Game & Fish Commission passed new rules to limit over the counter archery deer tags beginning in 2008. Many of the top units appear to be destined for a drawing beginning in 2008, and shorter seasons are expected in a number of the units that will remain OTC. Additionally, the buck/doe (also bull/cow) ratios that they will manage for have been lowered. This will have the result of less older age class bucks and bulls. It looks like Arizona's spot atop the trophy hunting states is slowly toppling.....

Also, does the AZ G&F publish thier findings? (I am sure that there were studies done before this was even proposed)
I was just curious. As I've stated before, I do quite a bit of studyin' in this area and was wondering if I could read up on exactly why they have passed this and exactly what outcome they are shootin' for.
Too bad for all you bow hunters who go OTC in Arizona.
Yes......unit 12 and 13A (Kaibab & East Strip) will be draw for archery. As such, the 10% non-resident rule will also be in effect.
Roy said it exactly. This will be your last year North of the ditch unless you draw a tag in the future, with the 10% cap in place. There are other scattered high(er) success units around the state that will also be included next year.
AGCHAWK,
I do have those numbers, but not with me. I'll try to remember to update this post later, but I'm leaving for a hunt Wednesday morning, so can't guarantee I'll get the time or remember it...
If I don't, remind me in a couple of weeks and I'll get it for you.
