Arizona Unit 9

Well I got drawn for rifle mule deer in unit 9 I don't know much about the unit except is great for ELK!!! so Im going up their in late Aug for some scouting and try to get one with my bow.(My prefered method of hunting) Iv driven up their one other time and didnt see much. Has anybody hunted this area for Deer? Also if so how did you do? I was hoping that someone here could help me out with a starting point for my scouting/archery hunt. As always thanks in advance for your help!!!

I'll say ::wel to the site. As far as for deer hunting on Unit 9 I'm not much help I've been down there on two occasions on elk hunts, and have only seen two does, but I'm sure there are more. Hope someone knows more than I do and good luck.

It's tough hunting! Flat lots of trees and pine needles(Loud). The Bucks in this unit are so smart they hang out on the park side during the hunts, but come out in the rut. If it rains, you're probably in trouble. They could be anywhere. If it is dry you might have to hunt over water, being that most of the area is flat with lots of trees, so "Spot and Stalk" is hard. Like you said about lots of Elk. They dominate the area. I think they push a lot of the Deer out of the area. I even went a day or two without even seeing a deer. Talking to other hunters most didnt even see one. I would for sure scout the area if I was you. Just because it didn't work for me, doesn't mean it wont for you.

The biggest set of mulie antlers I've seen, came out of Unit 9. I put in for it as my second choice this year and didnt get anything. If your interested, I have some friends that live and breath that area, and they also guide when they arent hunting, so if you would like, I can put you in touch with them
