~FELLOW UTAH ELK HUNTERS~
I have recently herd rumors of a drastic change in the DWR's elk management plans. In my opinion they dont sound too good! The elk herds have come a long ways and I think are now in their prime. To get to the "proposed change", from the mouth of a representative belonging to a wildlife group I hear this:
~That the number of limited entry elk tags in Utah will be INCREASED by a substantial number
~The rifle hunt (in September, dirring the rut) will be allocated ONLY 20% of total LE tags per unit
~There will be a SECOND rifle hunt in November with the remaining 80% of the tags given away for this hunt
As if this holds true or not, I don't know. It just was enough to make me mad! If the elk hunting in Utah is the best it has ever been, then Why mess it up or make a change that COULD ruin our elk herd for years to come?!?! Anyways I would encourage that you all let your voice be herd and call Utah's DWR and let them know how you feel about current herds and hunting and how a change in the management could impact elk herds and the hunting of true trophy class animals. If we dont do anything, who will???
