Az mule deer hunt

Hey everybody, I just joined the site. I have become addicted to hunting in the last year and half or so but no one in my family hunts. So I've been teaching myself and reading everything I can to learn all about varmint hunting and deer. I got drawn for my first deer hunt and im pretty stoked but could use some help or advice. Like I said I dont know anyone that hunts so any tips or advice you can offer I will embrace. My mule deer hunt is in nov in unit 28 in arizona. I went scouting last week but no success so Hope to hear from you guys Thanks!

November ought to be good. Arizona is a tough state to hunt. Most people that I've talked to while hunting there don't even see a deer. I haven't hunted 28, so it might be a lot better hunting. Just keep spending some time in the field that you can. Take note of elevation and such of where they are hanging. Usually in the transition areas. (Area that turns from brush to trees, ect) Be up early in the Gray light time when they are moving. If you wait for the daylight, you're missing the most important time to hunt. There is just so much to tell, but just keep at it and don't ever give up. The most important, is know your weapon. If you can't make the shot in the short window of opportunity that most deer give you, it wont matter how good of a hunter you are.

Arizona is an awesome mule deer state, IMO. Some really good bucks call that state home.

I sent you a PM on some general areas to check in unit 28. You should see some deer in these areas. Get up high, set up your binos & spotting scope, and let your eyes do the walking and you'll see deer.

I hunt 28 almost every year and it is a good mule deer unit. I also will be hunting the unit in November and will be hunting in the Ash Peak/Hackberry Ranch area. Usually I hunt the Solomon Pass area but we decided to do something different this year. I lived in Safford for years and know alot of hunters in the area who hunted the first hunt in late October and they had a great first hunt and harvested alot of nice muleys the biggest being a 3 by 4 with a 29 inch spread. PM me and I can give you a hand.

I was also drawn for Unit 28 in AZ. This is also my first Mule Deer hunt. I have found that the 2nd hunt is a difficult hunt. I hunted 5 solid days, saw 25 does but never saw a buck. Luckily I will get the chance to hunt the archery season again in December. Hopefully I will get the opportunity to take a deer then.
