AZ unit 42 mule deer

Here in Az there are other units besides the strip, one of those units being unit 42. It offers a chance at a trophy mule deer buck. The only problem is there's not a lot of deer. But with all that said, there are some really big bucks in this unit. Should a guy take the plung and go after a unit like 42 that has a 200 inch mule deer in it with low deer numbers?

If you know where they are at......yes. Problem with that unit (42) is it takes A LOT of scouting and dedication to find out where they are. I've bowhunted it and have seen some great desert bucks on occassion........but I know of a few guys who live in the unit and guide there that see them every year. They are out there all the time, which is what it takes.

In contrast, my two days on the Strip, I saw 3 bucks at or over 200" and a few more that were pushing the 30" mark.....problem with the Strip is you may only go once in a lifetime.....but the place has tremendous bucks.

That is so true. The odds of even getting the strip is small but the rewards can be great if you do. Unit 42 has potential since the odds of getting that unit are a lot higher and there are some toads there.

I've only been here 2 years last month and from what I've seen the state has few deer but there are some incredible bucks scattered all over. BOHNTR said it when he said scouting is the key. I found two spots I'll bowhunt next year during the rut where I saw several monsters. They disappeared after the rut though. I wouldn't be surprised if they only gather there for the rut yearly. The nice thing was there were no other hunters at all. I think I'm far enough up the learning curve to kill one next year. I covered alot of ground this past year and it was well worth it. Fun too.

I would have to say your right there are some big mule deer bucks out there. Another unit to mention is unit 10.

Also 31 and 32. Lots of big bucks all over but you guys are correct, they can be really hard to find.
