B&C Tule Elk with a bow!

My hunting partner's son beat all the odds and drew a Tule Elk tag here in California. They scouted every weekend until the season started the second week of August. These elk rut during this time, and the Owens Valley below the Eastern Sierra Mountains were filled with bugles. He ended up arrowing this 7x7 about an hour before dusk on opening day. At 17 he's got a B&C animal with his bow. Unreal. I've been putting in for this tag for years and have never drawn. Just goes to show you don't always need max points to draw here in the Golden State. Hope you enjoy:

Here's the bull before the shot:

100% public land.....DIY type hunt. There are some herds further North that are on private land and military bases. But the Owens Valley herd is BLM.

I kinda feel sorry for the young lad. Ruined for life now, will spend the rest of his days trying to better that tule only to find bitter dissappointment.

:)) Congrats to the young man and I do remember the buck he took last year!

Just an update.....I officially measured him for B&C and P&Y after the mandatory 60 day drying period. His official score is as follows:

296 1/8" gross and 285 1/8" net. The all-time record book minimum for B&C Tule elk is 285" net, awards book is 270" net. Congrats to the young man with his first B&C all-time Tule Elk.
