my wife and myself are back from our hunt with manitoban friends
hunting was slow ,but we managed to fill all the tags in our 6 day hunt
it was my wife's first real try at hunting.
she shot a rifle for the first time last spring when we bought a 260 model seven youth for her to use. by late august she was busting javex bottles
filled with water at 250 y from prone 2 out of 3 times.
we stumbled upon that small 4 on opening morning at 8:00. high grass prevented a sitting shot so i went on all four in front of her so she can rest on my back and take the quick shot on the nervous buck, standing broadside at 70 yards.

she just would'nt stop grinning. she was REALLY excited. i prayed for the last few months that she get a buck like this. thank god!
i have to go but i will be back with more pictures of our hunt, no monsters but lot of fun.

Her smile says it all, tell her congrats!!
Thanks for sharing, looks like a SWEET buck to me. :thumb
here's a picture of my 3x4. on the next to last evening this buck presented me a shot. it's by no mean a monster but still it's my second best.
thank to party hunting we were allowed to continue our hunt up to the last day. where on the last evening, i found myself sitting next to my new found hunting partner.we where overlooking an alfalfa strip 50 yards wide and 280 yard long bordered by bush where i counted 11 rubs
along the edge on both side. and with 10 minutes of legal time remaining
we both saw at the same time a big buck that appeared from nowhere
he was already 10 yard in the field broadside staring intently at us from 85 yard
i said "it's a buck"
my wife-"are you sure"
me- "don't move!"
after what seemed like an hour but was probably 45 sec.
the buck resumed is crossing of the strip.
my wife, aiming at the buck-"can i shoot? do you let me? can i shoot?"
i was trying to evalute the size of the buck,we had an agreement with our party partners to shoot only good 4points or better. and so far only had a front view, i knew width and heigth were ok, and when he turned and i saw the mass, i was certain we were dealing with a mature animal.
i immediately answered my pleading wife.
the sssss of yes was still hanging to my mouth when the 260 cracked
to my great joy the buck folded and didn't even twitch.
i was elated. we were shouting and dancing in the field.
what an ending to one of my most cherished week of hunting in my life.
this deer is bigger than the biggest deer i ever had in my 20 years of hunting. here she comes kicking my butt in her first week of hunting ever :))
is neck was incredible!!
that smile hung on her face 'til we went to bed late that night :))
Do you by chance know how much they weighed, the body of those things is very impressive.
my wife's first weighted 185
mine was 157
and my wife's 4x5 weighted 165
not long deers but huge necks
the biggest of the week weighted 209 and was taken by our host Pam
this brute was at least a foot longer than ours
