Back from the hunt with some success

My cousin and I hunted the third rifle season here in CO for elk in our favorite unit. The weather for the most part was too warm and we got very little snow that melted off rather quickly. Not our ideal conditions by a long shot.
But opening morning turned out to be pretty good, regardless of the warm weather preceding the hunt. Less than an hour into the hunt and less than a mile from the truck my cousin shot a nice fat cow at an amazing distance of less than 25 yards. His first elk ever after hunting them for a number of years.
Was he ever stoked! After we had gotten it to the truck (no easy feat for two 50+ year olds) his ego kicked in... lol
Calling himself the best elk hunter in camp, the best elk hunter of the year, ect, ect, ect... and it was ONLY opening morning!
Unfortunately for me, I never got a shot off. I did see elk a few times but they were moving rather quickly through the timber or crossing a large opening either too early or too late to shoot. So I got to hear his bragging all week long. Turned out to be a rather long week!
Sorry no pictures as my camera ended up getting frozen and I can't get the pictures of it for some reason. I do have to say in all honesty that I am VERY happy my cousin finally got an elk. He has hunted with us for a number of years, put in many, many miles and has worked his tail off helping get out elk and deer in the past. He is a great guy all around and I'm proud to have him as a cousin and a friend.
