How do ya know that he was poached? After you first posted the original pics of this one I thought that maybe he had died naturally...possibly not a healthy bull which I gathered from the strange/weak antler growth. (The spike's strange growth could have been caused by an injury to the pedicle or the skull)


I could be wrong though. You'd have to do some serious studying of the corpes to tell for sure.

well in my area that fork horn would not be legal must have 4 on one side or 6 1/2 inch brow tines. I have shot quite a few rag tags LOL and barely legal bulls but I knew real fast if they were legal. if the brow tine extends down to the mid nose its at least 6 1/2 and if it extends up past the tips of the ear its legal. last year I shot a 3x3 with 8 inch brow tines that made him legal saw him and knew by just the glimpse of the brow tines he was fair game. the sad thing is most new Elk hunters do not look at the brow tines and that's ware some n/t fork horns get shot. This year I saw a bull with a huge set of forks and said to my self " some greenhorn is going to shoot that bull ..". Sure enough some one did. A guy at the camp down the trail saw the fork wounded. truth is I find at least two illegal kills a year and have reported many of them over the years " Its when they shoot a spike it just %$%$@# me off!" but it is hard to find who did it most of the carcases were from the season before so who knows. That forth tine is such an odd point there is no way if it were a running shot to know if it was legal. I would have looked and seen no discernible brow tines and passed him by
