Not me, but isn't the Golden Eye the one the DWR says not to eat?? Because of high levels of mercury?

Yea, we have them a lot here in WA too (I guess it would stand to reason that if Killerbee says they have in Oregon that they'd be here too...LOL)

Really pretty birds though!

That's a good looking bird you have there. Have seen a couple but have never got one myself. It's the common goldeneye that they are talking about haveing the murcery advisory on. This one has migrated in from up north.

I was at a DU meeting to look into starting a local chapter here in the Wasatch, Summit County area.

I learned an interesting fact. Lets see if anybody knows the answer.

What month do you think the peak of the waterfowl migration is in? :-k

a_bow_nut, good question.

Since Mark already guessed and judging by his pics he's been postin' I'd be a fool to guess anything but what he already threw out there.

I have never been a huge "waterfowler" altough I did a bit of duck and goose huntin' as a kid. Not being the expert, I would have THOUGHT it would be earlier than that though.

However, as far as I'm concerned, Mark's the man so let's go with March. After all, momma didn't raise no fool...LOL

I would say he is right also. :)

To be a little more specific I was talking about the migration south in the fall. It surprised me.

seems it would be depending on where you lived. based on hunting season alone i think the best month to HUNT migrating birds is december . at least for me here in oregon

I understand it's the common Goldeneye in the Salt lake area that's has the high levels in some years. This year it low. But I don't think I would take the chance. I have talked to some hunters here in Cache valley would said they would not hesitate eating any Goldeneye from here. But don't the Common Goldeneye here in Cache Valley also go to the Salt lake area ?
