Big Agnes SL-1 tent.....largest one man tent I've seen.......VERY light-weight, packs extremely small, outstanding ventilation, and a large enough vestibule for boots, etc. I also have a Marmot 2-man that's good.....but weighs almost 2 pounds more than the BA.

I've used it the last two years in the back country in some extreme conditions......it's performed great.

outdoor research if i'm 99% sure i'm getting no weather, basically planning on sleeping under the stars- as there is absolutly no room to spare, but at 1 lb it's light

marmot eso 1 man tent any time i might spend a little time in it . with a really nice vestabule, plenty enough room for me with some room to do my cooking in. super light i need to look again for exact lbs [i want to say mid to upper 3 lbs- but i will look again]

i do have a i man tent that is a cross between the OUTDOOR REASERCH and the MARMOT, but it's a cheaper version and it condensates like nothing i've ever seen, litteraly puddles of water on your sleeping bag every morning. it's made by "do-it" or thats the name on it, but GARBAGE!!

if i had to choose out of the three i"ve tried, no question the marmot is all i take anymore

I have the Black Diamond Winter Bivy. Its lightweight (9 oz) and works well. If there is a chance for severe weather I always use it under good tree cover just to minimize the chances of it soaking through.

I use a US ECWS modular sleep system. One of the bivy sacks we use in the Marine corps. I just used a tarp to keep all of my gear dry. This bag is amazing. Between my personal adventures and Marine Corps ops I have spent many nights in one of these bags with pooring rain and horrible weather. Once I get rich I will buy a tent lol

clark jungle hammock
The only true 4 season hammock!
packs as small as a volley ball!
its as light as your bivy sack with your pad and you don't have to sleep on the ground.
Say good buy bugs, rocks, and sticks
It can however be set up on the ground if you still want too.

do a search on their web page. They have a few cool videos showing set up.

Here are a few photos of mine in action

I like it! But, what if there's no trees around.... lol

you can set it up without trees
you just stake the 4 corners down and use your hiking poles to high line it.
simple that is why its the best!

bivy sacks suck!
sleeping on the ground sucks!
There isn't anything this hammock cant do! It is the only 4 season hammock!

it has lots of pockets for clothes, boots, pistols, ect.
you can get a larger rain shield than what I have! this allows more room under it when it rains.

Eureka one man.1lb 3oz. I always set up under a large group of firs when I,m up in the back country. Never know how bad it might get or what you might get in the high country.

it does look interesting, i have a couple questions
i have a cot i use when i use a wall tent, i still use a sleeping pad because it is very cold if there is nothing under you to block the air. is it the same in the hammock?

and can you really set it up just using hiking poles?

The fast answer is the pockets under the hammock are used to put your clothes, boots, and what ever else in. This creates air space just like your pad allowing you to not get cold like you do in the Hennessey hammock or other hammocks.

I have use this hammocks several times in November and it has never been a deal breaker. I use a -20 degree bag for winter and a 20 degree bag for early season scouting and fall hunting. We don’t camp near roads, and we don’t use horses however I sometimes use goats Ha ha. This is another cheep low budget alternative to horses. I am a working class guy and have never hunted a LE unit. I have only hunted in Utah on public land. I however have taken 6 four point bucks in 6 years and I will contribute some of my success to hammocks and pack goats. This photo was take on one of my winter trips

that makes sence, the clothes/ air space. very cool set up. allthough i hate to see it, now instead of haveing 3 different ypes of backpacking tents, i'm going to have to start thinking about a fourth ](*,)

and on the pack goats, very cool. i have a buddy who just got 3 last year. so far everytime i've been with him while using them they are great! i cant wait to take them on a backpack hunt! it's amazing how much those suckers can pack

On this trip the goats were packing 45lbs or so each. They packed it through steep blow down snow covered timber and scrub oak. We probably put in 6 or miles in two days. Most of it was bush wacking.

They are not the best packers because of their size. Horses will pack three or four times as much but this will come as a huge cost ie Truck, trailer, feed, time training, shoeing, shots, ect.

Goats are a poor mans pack stock. I don’t make a lot of money and these dumb goats can sure help out in the right application. If I want the goats to keep up with me all day long I will put my gear on two goats. This spreads the weight out to around 20lbs 25lbs per goat. If I am successful I pack my gear out and the goats pack the quarters out.
Here are a few more pics.

these goats were a year and a half old in this pic. I only have the brown one left. I sold one for meat and sold the other white one because he horned one of my kids. He was an awesome packer though.

the two big ones were rented for 15 bucks a day and came with the saddle and panniers if you want to go that rout.

I only have de horned goats now. I love the look of the horned goats but never wanted to have a horned goat get my kids. I dont have to worry about my kids with the goats without horns.
