hey dan I shoot a 54 cal, muzzy and the only problem I have is finding sabot slugs for it, you will prolly find the same with the 58 cal, when I find the sabots I want, I load up on them, I load 150 gr, of pyrodex powder, prolly more than I need but it gets the job done well and dan dont try to save a buck on primers buy the best money can buy trust me you want the best primers, I find cci primers work good, my muzzy shoots with a pistol primer in a sealed accushot works well, but I am planing on buying a new england fire arms inline 50 cal, good luck

Dan, I agree with Whitedog whole heartedly. You will have a heck of a time trying to find slugs. The most popular caliber by far is .50. Let me relate to you a little story on buying the best primers. I was hunting in Mississippi for whitetails. While sighting in I had maybe 1 out of 10 duds due to the humidity. I pulled out some primers that I got from my dad, the charge was covered with a small foil lining. I shot a few rounds with no duds and figured this was the solution. I was out in a creek bottom when a very nice 8 point with nice mass passed by. I stopped him with a grunt call and pulled the trigger. I heard a pop but no boom. The deer heard the same thing and took off like a bat out of hell. I held the gun in a safe direction for about ten minutes until I felt it was safe. Put another primer on and continued hunting. After about 30 minutes, I began to think if it misfired before will it fire now? I tried, it didn't. I called it a morning and headed in. When I got back to the truck, I broke down the gun and pulled out the nipple. Come to find out a small bit of foil was blocking the nipple. Needless to say, I will never use those primers again. Just for info, I've got a Knight inline .50 cal that can use either the regular percussion cap primers or the shotgun primers. I now use only the shotgun primers, more reliable and more fire to the powder charge.

I have a 58 cal. and shoot a 560 gr. mini ball. The last time I shot it which has been about 4 yrs now I got some bullets from a gun dealer in town and they were from Navy Arms.
