Thanks bugbuck92!
The tag was drawn at the Salt Palace convention back in January.
I won't have a lot of time to scout it, i'll be guiding elk hunters prior to our hunt. The last time i was in the books, it was still 3 pont or better!!

If you're set up to pack in with horses or on foot you'll still find the bucks up high in the roadless area during the MZ hunt. It's beautiful country and you shouldn't have any trouble finding some bucks...it will just be a question of finding what you're looking for and getting close enough.

I wish I had that tag!!!!! This will be a killer hunt bud. I live in Provo and have been hunting there about my whole life so if you need me to go over maps let me know.

As I am not very computer savy, I hope that this gets to where I want it to go. This is in response to Hognuts111. I too live in Provo and have drawn a Book Cliffs muzzleloader tag this year. I would appreciate any help or advice you could give about the roaded area. My buddy and I are going out this weekend to try to get as good a look as we can. We spent a day a month ago on McCook Ridge. I would love to chat in person and maybe get pointed in the right direction as it is such a huge area. Let me know if this will work.

the bucks are no bigger in the roaded vs the roadless. the reason is they all winter in the same area where the rifle hunters let'em have it.

during the muzzy hunt the deer will have moved off the top so don't even bother looking up there. The deer will be half way to their winter grounds so look in the thick brush about mid elevation.
cover a lot of ground look over a lot of country. You wont have a problem finding bucks just remember the area is managed for 2.5 year old dinks. This year should be better then last so have fun.

When you say mid elevation, is that on both sides of the divide? Any specific canyons you recomend as far as a place to start? I don't mind hiking if that's what it takes. Thanks for your help.

I dont have any specific canyons cause when you hunt out their you have to let the deer tell you which canyon they want to be in. Their will be bucks in pretty much every canyon. the larger bucks will be in a different canyon every year. They are just deer that some how made it to 3.5 years old. LUCK I guess. This is where your scouting will pay off. If you don't have time to scout just use the first few days of your hunt and hold off on the trigger. You will see plenty of deer then just go back and wack one of the larger bucks you found.
