I hunted the muzzleloader deer hunt in the Books and ended up getting one on the last day. The deer started to move North even before the muzzleloader hunt..not sure why(?)

I hunted up high and saw a ton of deer, but no shooters for the first 5 days of the hunt. Could not locate any of the bucks I found while scouting late summer.

Ended up coming out for two days and then went back in for the rest of the hunt. Came off the top by about 16 miles and ended up finding one to shoot. Lots of deer, but don't expect to see a lot of really big deer. Like you said....tons of 3x4's and big 2x's. Find one you like the look of and take it as you might not see it again!!!

Hmmm....talked to a bunch of guys who hunted it last year...and non said they saw bunches of 170-80 bucks. Remember the Books is not stated to be a premium trophy area. It has some good bucks, but its not the Henrys or the Strip. It's a fun hunt with lots of deer and easy access.

I hope you kill a slammer!

Good luck!
