This entire set up was over in 3 minutes. We heard the gobbles, moved as close as we could and popped the blinds up 15 yards apart. As I was zipping the door my son said, "Here they come!" I look out and there are 3 birds running hard at about 175 yards. The next thing we know, they're standing inside the decoys at 6 yards. Derek shot first and dropped his bird dead in his tracks, I shot next and anchored my bird, and then Josh shoots his from 15 yards away. Three birds in 3 minutes ~ a triple archery kill!
We're all shooting Hoyt bows and we were all using Thunderhead fixed blades. Two of the birds dropped in the decoys and one ran about 40 yards before he tipped over. Josh also shot a bird 2 days earlier with his bow and it went about 15 yards before it went down. All of these birds we hit just behind the wing butts, with a follow up head shot on my bird. The saying is true... hit 'em high, watch 'em die. Hit 'em low, watch 'em go.

We have access to a nice area in CA and it's just a general open season for 37 days with a couple of extra weeks at the end for archery only. No tags required, 1 bearded bird per day, 3 per season. Some areas of CA are pretty thick with birds. We saw fewer than we usually do, but we were able to capitalize on every opportunity that presented itself.
And as you noticed, killerbee, no he wasn't there this year. I haven't hunted with him since.
Good luck on your hunt.
3 birds/no license?! Hmmm. Now where did I park my moving truck?
