Boys first bird!
Heads or Tails

This is my boy's tom from his turkey hunt. It was getting late in the season and the birds were getting quiet. We had some close opportunities he week before, but dad was being too "picky". However, we managed to find a group saturday morning after losing the group we first went after.
He never gobbled until we got right close to him and his group, we played catch up on some logging roads and skid-trails he kept strutting and gathering his group of hens. Finally after a what seems like hours we got him to pull off and he charged right us gobbling before my sone made a great 35 yard shot.
The turkey was the "boss" of the group and as you can see he has been in a few battles. His beard measured in at 9 inches, his spurs were right at an inch and he weighed in at approx. 22 lbs.
Not bad for a ten year boy's first turkey hunt.
Hunting with your kids when they first get started opens a whole new door and light on hunting.
